1. A Day in your Life

"So good to sit down with you Lauren! Tell us a bit about Bali Babes, what do you offer and what does a typical day look like for you?"

Lauren: Hey Sherrie , thanks so much for having me - a typical day for me is pretty crazy. I'm a mum of two gorgeous children, a 17yo autistic boy and 15yo daughter, as well as a wife to my amazing hubby of 23 years (not sure how that happened, poor guy!!!). I am a retired hairdresser, make up artist, and beauty therapist - so have always had a passion for beauty and aesthetics. Since starting my travel coordination business 2 years ago for Bangkok and Bali - my day looks like spending a lot of time (sometimes 16 hours a day, 7 days a week) - chatting with clients, getting to really know them one on one, and really focusing all my energy on creating a supportive and positive environment for those looking to travel abroad for surgery. I love to ensure my clients are fully prepared for surgery overseas. What to expect, what to take, all the important things that ensure that their journey is positive and smooth as possible.

2. Personalised Care Plans

"Every surgery and case must be somewhat unique - how do Bali Babes tailor their care plans to meet the individual needs of each patient?"

Lauren: I really take pride in getting to know my clients. I think it's really important that we have a good connection and clients feel like they can come to me with any questions or queries that they may have about their upcoming surgery. I ensure that I am available at all times, before, during and after surgery - I am not just simply a book and run business. I really focus my energy on ensuring my clients are as prepared as possible for their journey and that they are comfortable to ask anything they want to know, to make them feel like they are more prepared both mentally and physically.

3. Emotional and Psychological Support

"Is emotional and psychological support a part of your coordination services, and how do you address these aspects?"

Lauren: I absolutely believe that emotional and psychological support during the surgery journey is essential - a lot of people really do not think of the mental impact that surgery has on them - and something that is not often discussed are the effects that anaesthetic can have on your mental state and what happens after surgery. I believe that being open, honest and completely transparent about all aspects of surgery and the journey that you go through mentally helps people to prepare for what to expect.

4. Building Patient Confidence

"People come to you while they are still considering surgery, I can imagine they might often be very nervous! What measures do you find most effective in building stress-free patient confidence during their journey?"

Lauren: Absolutely, when my clients do come to me at the beginning of their research, I believe it's really important to be open and honest. I don't sugarcoat anything - being open and honest with clients about expectations and what to expect really helps me to connect with my clients. Being able to answer all of their questions, and if I can't answer their questions, I ensure that I reach out to their surgeon and have their questions answered.

5. Piles and Piles of Paperwork

"I can imagine the admin for any surgery would be a lot to do, but add international travel to a foreign hospital and this task must be enormous! What’s the normal administration load like and how do you assist your clients?"

Lauren: I won't bore you with all the details of the administration side of surgery abroad - however I can confirm it is a lot! I do spend many hours a day in back-and-forth conversations with my doctors and the clinics that I work with, always trying to ensure the very best outcomes for my clients. A lot of the work comes from things being lost in translation from time to time - especially with working with overseas hospitals, it's really important that my clients don't have to deal with that type of stress. I ensure that everything is absolutely crystal clear for my clients and that load of stress is taken away from them. I ensure that they know what's required, if there are extra costs involved and exactly what's needed every step of the way.
